ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics successfully evaluated

The joint funding of the ZBW by the federal government and the states is to be continued. This is the recommendation of the Senate of the Leibniz Association following the completion of the regular scientific evaluation. A new review of the funding requirements for the ZBW is to take place after the standard period of seven years.

The Senate of the Leibniz Association's statement in detail:

In its statement published on 18 March 2025, the Senate acknowledges the very positive development of the ZBW since its last evaluation. The highly demanded services are continuously being improved and excellently maintained. The institution is also very committed to negotiating licence access and thus makes the offers of economics publishers widely available. The ZBW has significantly expanded its research activities in recent years. The institution makes its scientific findings and innovative tools for handling digital data freely available in the spirit of open science, but it should make them even more visible in the future.

With the upcoming move into a new institute building at the Hamburg location and promising plans, for example for AI-supported automation in the production and maintenance of metadata, the ZBW is well positioned for the future.

The Senate of the Leibniz Association recommends that the federal and state governments continue their joint funding of the ZBW.
